November 3, 2010 - Cont.

November 3, 2010 - #2
We decided to walk to the post office this morning so that we could get the post cards sent out.  Hopefully everyone will get them before Christmas! It was a scorcher out there and the post office is clear across town! But it was a “good stretch of the legs” (name that movie Karen!) and we picked up some soda, ranch “flavored” dressing and fish food while we were out.

Seems like there are more people mulling around town today. Peak season starts around the middle of November. (although it depends on who you talk to as to when it really starts). The Veggie Van was gone so I can't pick up some fruit, and the gelateria (Tuti Fruti) was closed too. And I was so looking forward to getting some ice cream today! Bummer.  Well, there’s always tomorrow!  We’ll just go home and get in the pool to cool down.

We see Shelton on the way home, taking some kids back to school from their lunch break.  He asks Gerald when he is playing again because he had a LOT of fun Monday night! Guess that confirms it was a successful venture for sure. Wonder how we could work that in to our travel plans…!

The pool feels great! But looks likes rain is in the mountains, we can hear the thunder, and it’s coming this way.  A cool breeze starts – the perfect time to read a little and take a nap!  I wonder if this is what a dog or cat’s life is like?

Tuesday, November 2, 2010 - Update:

Ok, I lied – the videos aren’t all the way up.  I worked on them all day and night only had success on one. Oh well.  Then I fought with my iPhone trying to figure out how to dump some of the songs off it.  Unfortunately my home computer was what I started on, and I did not load all of the same songs on my laptop. So I had to sync it anyway, but I did find the most important ones I wanted to keep.  So…I’m not too crabby about it! =)

Wednesday, November 03, 2010:

I stayed up pretty late last night fighting with the computer and iPhone, so I slept in this morning till !

So the big dilemma is what to do today? Pool…?  Beach…?  Walk to town…?  Fish…?  These life decisions are tough to make. …well…I guess someone has to make them! =)

Gerald’s Debut at Paradise Resort - November 1, 2010

Gerald’s Debut at Paradise Resort
November 1, 2010

Patty and Jane stopped by and picked us up tonight (thank goodness because it rained on the way home! Didn’t want to walk in the rain with the guitar) and we headed to Paradise. We park and try not to get eaten by a dog guarding … something. But we got there and had dinner. Gerald had spaghetti and I had lime shrimp and it was YUMMY! (They do have good food there).

Not a lot of people, but for an impromptu gig…it turned out really to be a pretty good little crowd (about 15-20). That’s also a good number for a Monday night after a big party/holiday weekend! Sandra was in rare form! She is a hoot! A couple of local musicians showed up and were fascinated by Gerald’s Backpacker guitar and they enjoyed playing it too.

MaryAnn - Gerald’s #1 "Fan"!

Dillon and Sandra!

Don’t ask!

We’ve made plans to have a “Porch/Dock Party” so Sandra and Gerald can practice the new song Gerald is learning “Where the Boat Leaves From” by the Zach Brown Band. Don’t know when it will be, but I’ve volunteered to make the dip – because I brought some with me…in my purse!

We are both eaten up with mosquitoes. They are getting Gerald big time now. Not sure why now for him.  They say you become immune to them eventually – the locals don’t seem to have the bites we do. Karen - I think you are right, if these mosquitoes would suck fat instead of blood, I would have lost 75lbs by now!  I think the scientific community would better serve society (not to mention have a gold mine here) if they could genetically engineer a skeeter that would suck fat instead of blood! HA!  Wouldn’t that be GREAT!! =)  I officially issue the challenge.

Tuesday, November 2, 2010:

So far today we are just cleaning – laundry etc.  And Gerald just went to slay some fish! (or try to anyway – most likely it will just be feeding the fish as usual).  Think I finally figured out how to get these darned videos up - so let me know if it works or if you have any problems!

Halloween Trick-or-Treater's!

Halloween Trick-or-Treater’s

Here are the only 2 “ghouls” that came to the condo! Kenny and Kevin! Aren’t they cute!

THANKS EVERYONE FOR THOSE PUFFS OF WIND AND KEEPING TOMAS AWAY FROM HERE!

Monday, November 01, 2010:

Well, Bobby and Jan left for home today. We will surely miss them. (And there goes our limo!)  They were great fun and we have made new friends, which is a great bonus from our sabbatical!

We do get to hitch a ride with Patty and Jane because we want to go check with the barber, Karel, to get some information on going to a private island for a day, or maybe even overnight. Sounds fun and exciting huh?! The house is supposed to be fully functional – electricity (wind powered), about 4 bedrooms, bathrooms etc. Price is right, so we just have to make sure it’s a decent building and not a shack or tent on a deserted island!  Plus, with Tomas not coming…I feel a little more comfortable about getting out.

We scope around some buildings, one of which is the Purple Space Monkey. It’s closed right now and is for sale, and Gerald and I take a look around. A young woman comes in and she just signed and lease is going to reopen as the Purple Space Monkey in December. We may have to take a boat ride back down here because the food sounds like it could be good!

We also head over to the Community Co-op to see about maybe getting a lobster. One for me right now, cause Gerald isn’t going to eat any, and then maybe when Bob and Judy come down. I’ve never cooked one myself, but everyone says they are easy!  Plus – it’s only $11! We go inside the Co-op and start looking at the pictures of lobsters, and the diagrams and stuff on the walls.  Yuck…I can’t look any more. We leave quickly.  I am suddenly grossed out because it either looks like a spider (which I HATE) and I am suddenly reminded of the movie Alien, and I don’t want something coming out of that lobster attaching itself to my face!!! EEEEEEK!!

Other than that - nothing much to report today. It rained this afternoon. Gerald is going to play at Paradise tonight.  I’ve tried to upload the video, without luck. I don’t know what I’m doing wrong, but I’ve downloaded another program and will try to do it again!  Wish me luck! (or if you have any words of advice on how to upload a video...let me know!

Talk later!
