Thursday, November 25, 2010 - TURKEY DAY 2nd UPDATE:
Well, don’t know what I did exactly, had to download (and redownload) a couple of programs, not sure which one is working, but I don’t care. I finally got Skype running and even made a couple phone calls to friends and family! What a relief! It’s not a 100% like a phone, but better than $3 a minute! So…no sun today, just working on internet.
We made reservations at Celi’s on the beach for a “traditional” Thanksgiving dinner. Everything is different here, so it’s a risk, but we go downtown anyway. They don’t open until 5:30…we are there at 5:10. We get a drink next door and wait. As soon as they open the door, Gerald’s in. We are the only ones there. That could be a bad sign (what’s new?). We order the traditional American Thanksgiving dinner and hope for the best.
It doesn’t take long for the food to get to us. It doesn’t look bad. Turkey, ham, cranberry sauce, sweet potatoes with marshmallow, stuffing, dumplings, bread, and a piece of pumpkin pie with pecan topping. And….it was yummy. Not like home (for sure) but better than we could have hoped for. What a relief that something has gone right! And then other people start coming in and soon it’s crowded! Phew! We have our bellies full and are content!
(Our Thanksgiving Dinner)
Now for the ride home! It’s not bad enough that you have eaten till you are somewhat miserable, but now we have to endure the bumpy ride home. Of course, I wasn’t thinking of that when I was shoving the food down my throat right? And although the two guys playing guitar and squeeze box walked down the beach faster than we (Gerald) drove it, it was still a rough ride, and our immediate goal was to keep what we ate!
Survived the ride and back “home” safely, keeping dinner intact. We’ll try to make a couple more calls (keep your fingers crossed), but other than that, watch a movie and go to bed. Phew…these busy holidays wear me out! ; )
Hope you all have your bellies full too! Who’s shopping tomorrow?!
