Up and getting ready for John and Evonne! Freshen up the spare room (spray it down with Lysol till you can’t breathe…then shut the door and run!) open the windows, fluff the pillows…all the usual stuff. Gerald ran to the store to pick up a few things, and then we got some cold Bud Lights for Evonne and John’s arrival and off to the airport we go!
While we were at the airport waiting for the flight to land, I ran into a lady who was on crutches and had a boot cast just like mine! We looked at each other and just started laughing and did the ole’ crutch/boot cast toast! We were twinkies! She also did not have a glamorous story to tell, and had stepped off a curb and twisted her ankle. We both said we were going to make something up that sounded exciting! Unfortunately for her, some of the ankle bone splintered off with the tendon. Youch! She said she did hers 9 days after she got here too! Must be something in the air with that…don’t stay longer than a week? We laughed and talked, and took each other’s pictures to send to family. She is a traveling nurse and is supposed to be here for about 6 months or more. This is my boot cast buddy Cindy!
John and Evonne’s plane finally landed and we walked over to get their suitcases in baggage claim.
I just waited outside to avoid the crowds, and while standing there, I saw ANOTHER lady with a boot cast! Of course, we spotted one another and started laughing at each other and did the boot cast toast! We spoke briefly about our plights and then parted. Geeze - there must be an epidemic here with ankle injuries and boot casts! (invest in orthopedic supply companies!) Gerald wanted me to make a special note that they are all women…and blonde! Yeah…I smacked him! =)
We picked up the suitcases and walked to the car (where the beers were!). I got John and Evonne a beer out and but I was having a hard time with the bottle opener trying to pry off the cap. It took me forever, and then John had to help. I said no wonder these bottle openers were free…they don’t work worth a crud! Then we discovered … they were twist off caps. (I’m a tard! What can I say.)
Back to the condo we went, yakking all the way! (imagine that!) Evonne and I were in the back seat, so I told John it was his responsibility now to make sure Gerald stayed in the LEFT lane! Good thing Evonne was in the back seat with me! It takes a while to get used to seeing cars on the opposite side of the road! I kept her preoccupied!
We unloaded the car and haul the suitcases upstairs, then showed them around the condo. We ended up on the deck (of course) to take in the view and relax and visit for a while. We laughed and made lots of noise on the deck, hopefully enough to annoy the neighbors that have been annoying us for all these weeks!
Toasting John and Evonne’s arrival with umbrellas for their drinks! (how often do you see an umbrella in a beer!)
For dinner, instead of going out, we had put a roasted pork “Migos” in the crock pot earlier in the day and had open faced samiches, then talked some more. (imagine that!)
Finally, exhaustion sets in and poor John and Evonne are throwing in the towel. We’ve plotted our plans for tomorrow so it’s time to get some rest in preparation of the activities to come. Plus…we need to get some more beer!
It’s so fun to have someone here to talk to and plan things with. Let the adventures begin - again! =)
