Friday, March 04, 2011:

Gerald and John got up early and went to play golf.  Evonne and I visited for a while, Evonne did her Farmville, and then we went shopping in Christiansted.  We took a taxi downtown; Big John came and got us, and he took us right to the jewelry stores! We didn’t get to far really, what with me crutching along slowing us down.  We only had a few hours anyway before the guys would be done golfing, and they were supposed to call and pick us up on their way home.  Gerald didn’t take his phone though (he forgot it) and we must not have been receiving a signal but they finally went back to the condo to get Gerald’s phone and called us.  Although we weren’t done yet, we told Gerald to take a nap and call us in a couple hours! We did pretty good with the shopping, but still didn’t get as far as we wanted.  Actually, as Gerald was coming down the street to pick us up, we were scoping out a store and since he was picking us up, we didn’t have time to shop so we need to go back!

Some of the old buildings:

 Evonne got her bargain here!
Evonne is trying to chase down a rogue chicken in downtown Christiansted for our dinner!
Here is a car wash that Evonne gets a kick out of.  While they are washing your car, there is a bar where you can drink! = )

We got back to the condo and sat around talking about what we wanted to do for the rest of the time Evonne and John are here; there is so much to get in, and only a few days to do it in.  So they decided they would stay a few days longer so we can to more and not be rushed around! They are staying until Saturday now!

We would have gone to the pool but there were some big dark rain clouds hanging out there.  It started to rain, and a big rainbow came out!

We decided that we would go to Rowdy Joes for dinner then hit Over the Cliff for a drink and see a band Gerald wanted to hear.

After we all got ready for dinner, we were almost ready to leave when Evonne grabbed a Renuzit air freshener I had sitting on top of the fridge.  I had put water in it to refreshen it…and she thought it was empty and was going to throw it away.  Unfortunately she grabbed it, not knowing it was full of water, and slopped vanilla scented water all over her hair, outfit and kitchen floor.  She had to get ready all over again! At least she smelled good!  Luckily we have a washer and dryer! But that shirt may be a total loss!

We got to Rowdy Joes – parked in the wrong spot – then went inside to check out the menu.  It was a different menu, certainly not your standard fare. Everything had a bizarre twist to it. We decided to stay anyway and ordered a drink and dinner.  I ordered the PepperJack Mac-n-Cheese with a bacon crust (no fat there!) and fried edamamme (I was in heaven!) with a teriyaki sauce, Evonne ordered a caprese salad and the mac-n-cheese too, Gerald had a Cubano sandwich and John had mahi fish tacos.  Everyone enjoyed their food!  As we left they had a small salsa band playing. I liked it, but you know Gerald, if it ain’t country…he won’t like it!

We headed down the street to Above the Cliff and the band playing was called “Trailer Trash” (right up our alley)!  They sang pretty close to country music, had a steel guitar, and actually it consisted of the drummer we saw at Off the Wall and the guitar player and singer we saw at Coconuts! Guess they shift and switch around! Interesting.  It was a pretty neat little place though. Recently had some renovations and it was set up good.  If it were daylight, we probably could have gotten some great pictures since it is right by the water.  We had a drink, listened to some music and then came home.

It’s damp and cool from the rain…good thing Evonne and I brought our jackets!

Meanwhile, back at the condo: John and Gerald are sitting on the back deck and smoke started pouring out of the dusk to dawn light that hangs off to the side of our deck.  We’ve already made 3 requests to have someone look at it, but they never have as of yet.  We called security and she came over to look at it.  The smoke had stopped by that time.  She looked at it and said it felt cold, but when John felt it, he said it was hot.  There is 1 smoke alarm in the hallway…hope it works.  Guess it won’t burn too quick…it’s a concrete building!

Well, it’s been two nights in a row that we have gotten home past 10pm.  That’s really late for old people you know! And now that we don’t have to rush around…we can take our time and not have to get up at the crack of dawn tomorrow morning!  It’s good to relax! (besides...we are shopping again tomorrow, so we need the rest!)
